While Dave Grohl has frequently teased “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on Foo Fighters’ Concrete and Gold tour, he hadn’t yet gotten a chance to play the opening drum part to the Nirvana classic at the band’s hometown Safeco Field gig in Seattle. The last time Grohl got to play part of the drum part of the song in Seattle was on January 8, 1994 at the Seattle Center Arena.

Krist Novoselic appeared at the same show with his band Giants in the Trees, and performed the Vaselines’ “Molly’s Lips” with his Nirvana bandmates Dave Grohl and Pat Smear. Grohl, Novoselic, and Smear reunited to perform “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and other Nirvana classics for two New York performances in 2014 to celebrate Nirvana’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

You can watch video of the tease below. Foo Fighters were forced to postpone two Canadian shows after the Safeco Field gig due to Dave Grohl losing his voice after getting a cold. Grohl joked that he lost his voice from kissing Bono, whose vocal issues forced U2 to recently end a concert in Berlin early after “Beautiful Day.”
