Last year, Jane’s Addiction’s original line-up of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins, and Eric Avery reunited and released their first new music together in 34 years. Unfortunately, this long awaited comeback was abruptly cut short.
This past September, Jane’s Addiction cancelled the remainder of their tour and all future plans after Farrell and Navarro got into an on-stage fight in the middle of their show in Boston. In a statement at the time, the band blamed the altercation and the resulting cancellations on frontman Perry Farrell and his “continuing pattern of behavior and mental health difficulties.”
Since then, the status of Jane’s Addiction as a band has been left up in the air with many fans wondering if they’ll reunite again in the future.
Now, in his first public interview since the incident in Boston, Navarro opened up about the band’s status.
“There was an altercation onstage, and all the hard work and dedication and writing and hours in the studio, and picking up and leaving home and crisscrossing the country and Europe and trying to overcome my illness — it all came to a screeching halt and forever destroyed the band’s life, ” Navarro told Guitar Player in a new interview.
“And there’s no chance for the band to ever play together again. I have to say that’s my least favorite gig, without throwing animosity around, and without naming names and pointing fingers, and coming up with reasons.”
He continued, saying that the band had no problem getting along early on in the tour during their European dates, but that unfortunately didn’t last.
“And that gig, September 13th, in Boston, ended all of that. And for that reason, that is my least favorite gig that I have ever played… The experiences are there, but the potential of having those types of experiences ended that night. And so, you know, it is what it is. And that’s my answer.”
Earlier this year, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins appeared to have been back in the studio working together without Farrell. A video posted by Avery on Instagram was captioned: “Writing some more new lines to some of Stephens drumming. Look forward to getting some Mr Navarro on them. 2025!”
No further information about their collaboration or what they have planned has been shared.
