Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder gave a stellar performance at the Mandela 100 Global Citizens Festival concert on Sunday in Africa with Ed Sheeran, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Beyonce, and Jay-Z. Vedder was the lone rocker on the lineup, and the fans of many of the pop artists watching the show disrespected the Grunge icon.

Andy Hadfield tweeted, “80k people just had no idea who Eddie Vedder is and what he’s added to the music world. He sung Better Man. And Imagine. And @mikestopforth was right. Still. Year made. ? #GlobalCitizenFestivalSA”

Below are some of the disrespectful tweets.

“Who tf is Eddie Vedder? ? ?”

“#GlobalCitizenFestivalSA Was it necessary to put in Eddie Vedder in the line up. . . ?”

“Fuck them…. why didn’t they switch off Eddie Vedder for the crowd n let us watch beyonce n jay z once….
Iconic my foot nxaaa.”

“Seeing some Eddie Vedder slander!?!? Next from the peanut gallery to chime in…”

Vedder paid tribute to Chris Cornell and Nelson Mandela with a powerful performance of “Long Road”. You can view the tweets and performance below.
