Aerosmith reunion hopes increase after performance
Sully Erna, the frontman of Godsmack, recently shared his thoughts on Aerosmith’s announcement in August 2024 that the band would be retiring from touring due to vocalist Steven Tyler’s vocal injury. This decision followed the 77-year-old singer’s larynx fracture, which occurred during a performance in September 2023. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry reunited last night with Yungblud at the MTV VMA’s to pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, fueling hopes of an Aerosmith reunion.
In a new interview with Chaz & AJ In The Morning, a morning radio talk show program on 99.1 WPLR, a rock radio station broadcasting from New Haven, Connecticut, Sully said:
“I hope Tyler comes back, at least resurfaces, just to put a small handful of shows together, because I’ve gotta tell you, I don’t like that he wrote a letter, posted it on Instagram about, like, ‘Hey, this is the end. Thanks for being a fan for 50 years, and see you later.’ I’m, like, nah, that’s not how you end a legacy, dude. You need to come back, even if your voice hurts or whatever. You stand on that stage, maybe you have some guest singers, play a full show and then Tyler steps out for a three-song encore or something at the end, takes his bow, says a few words to the fans, and that’s how you go out.”

Regarding Aerosmith’s announcement that Tyler had been “tirelessly working” to get his voice back to where it was before the injury but that it was clear “a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible”, Erna said: “I think he was just nervous about trying to do a full set. Maybe he felt like he didn’t wanna hurt himself or maybe he has to cancel again, and he doesn’t wanna let his fans down. And that’s understandable. But at the same time, you’ve gotta do L.A., Boston, London — pick a few and just do it right, like Oasis just did, stadiums. They’re Aerosmith, man. It’s 50 years of a legacy. You can’t go out with an Instagram post.”
Fleetwood Mac members reuniting?
This week is also bringing similarly hopeful headlines for another legendary duo. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham—the Buckingham Nicks team who later shaped Fleetwood Mac’s generation defining sound—have reignited reunion speculation by posting a nostalgic clip from their early days together.
The Instagram video shows Nicks singing a line from their 1973 track “Frozen Love” (“You may not be as strong as me…”) before trailing off with a chuckle, followed by the caption: “We remember the rest now.” The duo had previously confirmed a remastered reissue of their only joint album, Buckingham Nicks, set for release on September 19th. Meanwhile, Mick Fleetwood recently shared a heartfelt video calling their musical chemistry “magic then, magic now,” after reconnecting with Buckingham in the studio for the first time in seven years.
