MTV Alum Kennedy Pushes Back on Kurt Cobain Murder Claims

Former MTV personality and current Fox News host Kennedy has responded to renewed conspiracy claims around Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s 1994 death, arguing the evidence still points to suicide rather than murder. Her comments come as a private forensic report has again questioned aspects of the scene at Cobain’s Seattle home, including the suicide note, the amount of heroin in his system and whether he could have handled the weapon.

Kennedy wrote that she knew Cobain during her time working at MTV in the early 1990s, describing him as introverted and uncomfortable with fame, while calling the new “assassins” theory unconvincing; Daily Mail reported she said she “knows in my heart” what happened because she was present in the same music-industry orbit at the time.

In her account, Kennedy described first seeing Cobain and Courtney Love at a Teenage Fanclub show in Los Angeles, then later getting to know Cobain once she was hired as an MTV VJ hosting the nightly music programme Alternative Nation. She said Cobain seemed “peeved by the fuss of fame,” and claimed Love could be volatile and confrontational, including an incident in which Kennedy said Love gave out her phone number onstage, leading to a flood of calls.

Kennedy also pointed to a pattern of addiction and crisis in the weeks before Cobain’s death, citing his March 1994 overdose in Rome and subsequent efforts by friends and family to get him help, echoing what has been covered in Alternative Nation reporting on forensic investigators disputing the official ruling again.

While acknowledging her negative personal view of Love, Kennedy argued that blaming Love for Cobain’s death, or alleging hired killers, ignores the larger picture of depression, drug use and prior warnings that he may have been suicidal. She concluded that revisiting the case in sensational terms risks reopening old wounds for those who lived through the era.
