Black Sabbath closed the book on their legendary career with their final performance on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The concert, titled Back to the Beginning, was billed as the band’s last-ever show and marked the first time in nearly two decades that Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward performed together on stage.
The event drew over 40,000 fans to the stadium and millions more via livestream around the world. Hosted by actor Jason Momoa and curated by Tom Morello, the 10-hour celebration featured a lineup of major rock and metal acts including Metallica, Tool, Pantera, Slayer, and Alice in Chains. Each band paid tribute to Sabbath by performing one of their songs during their set.
As night fell, the original members of Black Sabbath took the stage for a four-song finale: “War Pigs,” “N.I.B.,” “Iron Man,” and “Paranoid.” Ozzy, seated due to health issues, delivered his vocals with the support of the crowd, who sang along to every word. Bill Ward returned on drums, marking his first full performance with the band since 2012.
Ozzy’s family, including wife Sharon and children Kelly and Jack, watched from the side of the stage. At one point, Kelly’s fiancé proposed to her during the show. Ozzy received a massive birthday cake and a standing ovation from the crowd.
The show doubled as a fundraiser for Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice. Despite his ongoing health struggles, Ozzy remained energetic and emotional, calling the night “a dream come true” and thanking fans for standing by him through decades of music.
As fireworks exploded over Villa Park, the crowd erupted in cheers one final time. With no plans for future performances, the concert officially ended the career of the band that invented heavy metal in the very city where it all began.
