Kurt Cobain’s friend John Purkey has uploaded a new video discussing Foo Fighters.

“So Nate Mendel. Now Nate, I know Nate from a band he was in called Christ on a Crutch. Actually before that too, Diddley Squat, I have a Diddly Squat demo tape, and I put it on my page so you can listen to this band that Nate was in when he was 15 or 16 years old. Diddley Squat used to play at a [local theater]. I went on tour with Christ on a Crutch, Nate is a really sweet guy, really nice guy.

I remember one night, it probably would have been 1995 or 1996, I ran into him and it was before Foo Fighters started, or they were just starting. I ran into Nate at the Java Jibe in Tacoma, and he told me that he’s going to be playing bass in what’s basically the new Nirvana. I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He explained it to me, and they were looking for a drummer. So of course I was like, ‘Yeah, awesome. Let me know.’ I think he said that they already had somebody, but if anything changes he’d let me know.

So yeah, Nate was living in Tacoma back then. Also, if you don’t know Sunny Day Real Estate, which you probably do if you like the Foo Fighters. I’m not a big Foo Fighters fan, I like the first couple records.”
