Howard Stern Surprises Al Roker on Today
Howard Stern made a surprise appearance on the Today show to celebrate Al Roker’s 30th anniversary as the program’s weather anchor. The special episode aired on January 27 and honored Roker’s long career, which began in 1996. Stern joined the show by calling in and congratulated his longtime friend, but he also brought his usual humor and blunt questions.
Awkward but Funny Questions
During the conversation, Stern joked that he wanted to ask something “everybody wants to know,” even though it might be controversial. He asked Roker, “Do you have weather groupies?” and followed it up with, “Are there women out there who are ready to sleep with you in a minute?”
Stern kept pushing and said he was “seriously” asking if anyone had ever thrown themselves at Roker. Roker laughed and answered simply, “No.” He reminded viewers that he has been married to Deborah Roberts since 1995.
Roker did joke back, saying co-anchor Craig Melvin “has thrown himself at me,” which made everyone laugh. Melvin quickly replied, “Oh, stop. Don’t drag me into this.”
Looking Ahead, Not Retiring
Stern also joked about whether Roker would ever reveal secrets from behind the scenes, like which guests had bad breath. Roker replied, “Yeah, after I’m finally off the air—but not until then,” adding, “Because I need this job.”
Roker later said he is not thinking about retirement. “I love what I do,” he said. “I feel good. I love this job.”
