Howard Stern silent about Charlie Kirk

Howard Stern recently returned on Monday morning for his first broadcast since the shocking assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. However, listeners noticed one glaring omission.

Stern, known for decades as one of the most outspoken and unfiltered voices in radio, never once mentioned Kirk’s name during his latest show. Major musicians like System of a Down have posted emotional reactions to the loss of Kirk. Stern is very vocals about his criticisms of President Donald Trump and his supporters, and he had on Joe Biden last year before he dropped out of the 2024 election.

Howard Stern pulled off a prank

The silence came just a week after Stern’s much-discussed return, which itself was fueled by an elaborate prank involving fellow SiriusXM personality Andy Cohen. On that broadcast, Stern staged a mock announcement that Cohen would be stepping in to replace him at SiriusXM. The stunt quickly caught fire online, sparking speculation among fans before being revealed as a joke.

Ironically, just days after the prank, SiriusXM announced that Cohen had in fact inked a new three-year deal with the satellite and digital radio giant. The 57-year-old producer and TV host will continue to oversee Radio Andy, the channel built around his brand, while also hosting his weekday program Andy Cohen Live alongside co-host John Hill. The show, which airs at 10 a.m. ET, has been a fixture on the platform for a decade.

While Cohen’s future with SiriusXM is now secure, Stern’s decision to sidestep any mention of Kirk’s death has drawn attention, especially given the gravity of the news and Stern’s reputation for weighing in on hot-button issues.
