In a report by Air Mail on Saturday (June 7th), nine women have accused actor and musician Jared Leto of inappropriate behavior. Those women, inducing model Laura La Rue, shared their alleged experiences with Air Mail senior editor Elena Clavarino, with some stories dating back to at least 2006.
The accusations range from inappropriate text messages with underage girls, to incidents where Leto allegedly exposed himself to a 17-year-old, to him performing an explicit act in front of an 18-year-old.
One of the women told the publication that Leto’s behavior has “been an open secret for a long time.”
Allegations against Leto first began to emerge last month when DJ Allie Teilz shared a Facebook post of hers from way back in 2012 to her Instagram.
“You’re not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat. I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17,” she wrote. “He knew my age and didn’t care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable,” she added in a separate story.
A representative for the Thirty Second to Mars singer has “expressly denied” the multiple accusations reported on by Air Mail, including Teilz’s. The representative added that the claims were “demonstrably false.”
One woman featured in Air Mail’s exposé told the publication that when she was 16-years-old she was approached by Leto outside a café in Los Angeles, saying that he grabbed her arm and initiated a “quick conversation” before getting her number. She claims that a few days later, Leto called her, but that he sounded like “he was on drugs” and spoke in “the weirdest, grossest voice.”
The accuser speculated that he was under the influence when he called her. However, in response to these claims, Leto’s rep said that he has been sober for more than 35 years.
