The Red Hot Chili Peppers fansite RHCPtv1 have uploaded a rare video of John Frusciante looking on proud at Josh Klinghoffer, his eventual replacement, singing and playing guitar. The viral video Alternative Nation discovered is titled: “John Looks To Josh Like ‘I’m Proud Of You’ And Flea Gives The Same Shocked And Proud Look!”

A fan named Camilo pointed out what could have been the real reason for John and Flea’s strong reaction to Josh. He said, “The reason they looked at him was because his microphone was WAY too loud.

I always thought that this happened because before that song Anthony said: ‘Josh is going to sing in this song, so make sure his microphone is up’ (or something like that) in a kinda rude way to the music engineer, so maybe they were like: ‘Ok you want his microphone loud? Here you have it.'”

He added, “I just watched the concert, and Anthony said: ‘Dave Brat, Josh is going to sing lead on the chorus so make sure his mic is up.’ And Mr. Dave here turned his microphone up hahahah.”

Matheus added, “Josh noticed that Anthony’s voice was failing so he saved the day haha. That’s why both John and Flea looked at him thinking: god job kid!! I miss them all playing together like that.”

John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer worked together on multiple Frusciante solo albums, with Klinghoffer joining the Chili Peppers as a touring second guitarist in 2007. When Frusciante left the band in 2009, Klinghoffer replaced him. RHCP fired Klinghoffer in 2019 to rehire Frusciante.
