Viral Rumor Claims Kid Rock Canceled NYC Shows After Mamdani’s Win
A rumor is spreading online that musician Kid Rock canceled concerts in New York following Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the city’s mayoral election. However, this claim is false.
No Concerts Were Scheduled
Despite viral posts claiming he canceled shows, Kid Rock had no upcoming concerts listed for New York. His official website showed his most recent tour date was November 8 in Arizona, with no future performances scheduled.
The rumor seems to have started as a joke. One widely shared post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed, “Almost a dozen tickets had to be refunded,” and included a fake breaking news screenshot. That post was shared over one million times and originated from a parody account.
Source of the Hoax
The hoax spread through posts by clearly satirical accounts, including one pretending to be a Republican politician. These posts mocked the idea of Kid Rock canceling and were not intended to be taken seriously.
Even then, some users on social media believed the story, while others mocked both the rumor and Kid Rock. Comments included jokes about his age, musical relevance, and lack of ticket demand.
Political Context
Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist, recently won the New York City mayoral race, defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. His victory is seen as a major shift left in city politics.
While supporters celebrate his plans, such as free bus service and city-run grocery stores, critics, including business leaders, have voiced concerns. Some, like billionaire John Catsimatidis and Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy, have even threatened to move their businesses out of New York.
