Kid Rock reacts to Charlie Kirk assasination
Kid Rock, who is one of the most prominent Republicans and Trump supporters in rock music, tweeted he was praying for conservative activist Charlie Kirk after he was shot, prior to his death. Kirk was assassinated while speaking on a college campus in Utah.
Kid Rock tweeted, “God Bless Charlie Kirk. A true PATRIOT. Pray for him. Kid Rock.” System of a Down also weighed in on Kirk’s passing.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. compared Kirk’s assassination to the deaths of his father and uncle, “Once again, a bullet has silenced the most eloquent truth teller of an era. My dear friend Charlie Kirk was our country’s relentless and courageous crusader for free speech. We pray for Erika and the children. Charlie is already in paradise with the angels. We ask his prayers for our country.”
In the wake of Kirk’s assassination, tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum. President Donald Trump, who frequently shared campaign stages with Kirk, called the shooting “a devastating act against free speech and the American spirit,” according to the Associated Press. Members of Congress, including Speaker Mike Johnson, also voiced outrage, while Democratic leaders condemned the violence as another sign of America’s divided political environment, as reported by Reuters.
For Kid Rock, his statement and chiming in fits in with his MO regarding conservative politics. The rocker has aligned himself with GOP causes for years, performing at Trump rallies and voicing support for gun rights, while often describing himself as a “patriot above all else.” His prayer filled reaction to Kirk’s shooting yet again proves he’s one of the few mainstream rock musicians openly backing Republican politics — a stance that polarizes fans, but has also entrenched him as a cultural lightning rod, noted CNN.
