Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett posted a photo of a burning church on Sunday on Instagram, just a day before the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris on Monday devestated the iconic building. Hammett later edited his post on Monday, apologizing to offended fans.

“*Edit: my heart breaks for Paris and Notre Dame – this image, though it may seem connected to this horrible event – is actually a detail from the Lords of Chaos poster. A film mentioned in my blog*. Got a new blog post up at www.fearfestevil.com 💀 some thoughts on recent films I’ve seen… 🎞💀 link in bio … hope you dig it !”

CNN is reporting, “Parisians raised their voices in song Monday night outside Notre Dame Cathedral as a massive blaze engulfed one of the city’s most revered historic sites.

The fire burned for several hours Monday, causing the collapse of the cathedral’s iconic spire and the destruction of its roof structure, which dated back to the 13th century.
Consumed by flames, the spire leaned to one side and fell onto the burning roof as horrified onlookers watched.

By early Tuesday morning, officials said the fire was under control and several invaluable artifacts had been rescued from the burning cathedral.”
