A family from Virginia has reached out to Metallica to thank them, claiming that the band’s concert saved their lives.
On May 7th, the McKee family narrowly escaped being involved in a deadly crash when a truck plowed into their living room at 2am. The family credits their escape to Metallica, as they had all gone to bed early in order to prepare for the concert.
As David and Kristin McKee explained to WDBJ7 News, they usually stay up late to watch TV in their living room. Recalling a conversation she had with her husband that night, Kristen said: “[I asked David,] ‘You want to sit up’ and he was like, ‘Nah, I think I’m just gonna go on to bed.’ And I said, ‘Okay, I’ll go on to bed too.’ And then just a few hours later we heard a loud explosion, glass shatter, and it was just madness from that point on.”
“We were so fortunate that, that night, my daughter could have walked down that hallway and found us in the rubble. I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us,” she added.
The couple’s teenage daughter Madeline – a huge Metallica fan – was the reason they were all going to the show in the first place.
“It started my dad used to listen to it a lot when I was younger and then when ‘Stranger Things,’ like, season four had came out, they had Eddie playing ‘Master of Puppets’ and that was mostly when it started like a lot more for me,’ the 14-year-old said.
Due to the accident, which left their home unlivable, the family unfortunately missed out on the May 7th concert. Madeline, however, was simply grateful her parents survived.
After processing everything, the teenager decided to reach out to James Hetfield and co., writing them a letter as a thank you.
“You saved my parents’ lives. I will be forever grateful. Good luck with the rest of your tour and hope to see you on the road. Sincerely, Maddie McKee.”
While their house was left severely damaged, the McKee family is hopeful they can return home in about six months.
