The Rolling Stones are set to kick off their ‘No Filter’ North American tour in Chicago next week, and The Chicago Tribune took a look back at the Stones’ most historic Chicago moments, including the recent ‘Exhibitionism’ exhibit at Navy Pier, which featured a recreation of The Rolling Stones’ apartment that Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Brian Jones lived at together in London in the 1960’s.

“That was the weirdest thing really. … The building is still there – it’s not a building that’s been knocked down or anything, it’s right around the corner from where I actually live now,” Mick Jagger said, via Billboard. “It’s very redolent of the space … and it smells like it and feels like it.

“I just remembered how it really was,” he added.

“There were a lot of places like that in the early ’60s … you wouldn’t want to live there now,” Charlie Watts said.

According to curator Ileen Gallagher via Yahoo News, no one had any good photographs of the interior of the flat. So they relied on Jagger, Richards and Charlie Watts’ memories of what it looked and felt like. The scenic designers got the apartment plans from the City of London and used items from that period to re-create it, she said.

“We set the apartment up and showed Mick and it had about 40 more beer bottles and a lot more cigarette butts than it has in it now. He said, ‘We were bad, but we weren’t that bad,’” she laughed.
