Neil Young Says Trump Anger Fuels New Album
Neil Young has signalled that his next record is taking shape in the studio, with the veteran songwriter saying his frustration with US politics is spilling into new material. In an update posted to the Neil Young Archives this week, Young described feeling “hurt” and “depressing” about the current climate while confirming he is actively recording with his band the Chrome Hearts.
Young wrote that he is “in the studio recording a new album with the Chrome Hearts” and that “so far we have eight new songs.”
In the same message, Young took direct aim at President Donald Trump, calling him “the worst president in the history of our country” and likening the daily news cycle to “a bad TV show produced by DJT.” Young said he feels he can still “go out and demonstrate” his views, but suggested music remains the outlet that helps him process the moment, adding that the new songs “make me feel.”
The comments fit a long-running pattern of Young’s public criticism of the Trump administration, including sharp statements about government policy and calls for action directed at companies he says support the president. Alternative Nation has previously covered Young’s past political remarks, including when he accused a president of hiring “alcoholic wife beaters” in a separate controversy.
No release date, track list, or label details have been announced for the project, but Young’s confirmation that eight songs are already written and being recorded suggests the album is moving quickly. Any official rollout, including a title or first single, would likely come via the Neil Young Archives site and his usual communications channels.
