Nine Inch Nails cameo in Tron Ares

Tron: Ares, featuring music by Nine Inch Nails, boasts an impressive cast that includes Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges.

Notably, two of the film’s most significant contributors are Oscar-winning composers and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who are credited under their Nine Inch Nails moniker for the film’s score. A picture of Reznor and Ross has emerged on social media which implies that they played the roles of pilots in the movie.

The duo, who served as executive producers on the film, actually appeared onscreen, briefly, as fighter pilots. Reznor and Ross also attended the film’s world premiere in Hollywood on Monday night (Oct. 6). They appeared both in the theater — standing alongside the cast and director Joachim Rønning ahead of the screening — and outside of it, when they played a four-song set for premiere guests. Two of the songs on the setlist, “Forked Reality” and “Shadow Over Me,” received their live debut at the concert. Reznor and Ross also did a Q&A with Jeff Bridges.

Nine Inch Nails performance at Tron Ares premiere

Before Reznor and Ross took the stage at the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s Chinese), their frequent collaborator, Boys Noize, delivered an electrifying 30-minute set. This performance included music from the Ares soundtrack, much of which he helped produce.

The set was enhanced by thick smoke that created a constantly shifting backdrop for the red laser light show emanating from behind the stage. The German DJ, who from a distance resembles a doppelgänger of Ross and Reznor with his jet-black hair and all-black outfit, captivated the premiere attendees. Many of the guests embraced the “On the Grid Chic” dress code suggested in the premiere invite, wearing outfits that featured black and silver to achieve a vaguely futuristic look.
