Howard Stern asked Pat Smear if he misses playing in Nirvana after his 1993 to 1994 stint in the band, and Smear revealed the surviving members reunite to play privately.

“Every once in a while, me and Krist and Dave get together and we do play as if we’re Nirvana. So I don’t have to miss it — we do it. If we’re in the same town together, or whatever, we’ll get together and jam.”

Smear said the last time they played was when Foo Fighters were recording Medicine at Midnight at a house. Grohl then added, “We actually recorded some stuff.”

Nirvana have also played reunion shows live, including headlining Cal Jam 2018 and performing with guest singers in Los Angeles in January 2020.

Grohl and Smear said it often hurts too much to discuss Nirvana memories and revisit the albums. Grohl said when he took his daughter out for a drive the other night to leave the house, he was shocked to learn she knew all the words to “Come As You Are” when it came on the radio.

“I never played that record. We don’t talk about Nirvana and stuff, and she’s singing every word of the song. That, to me, that feels good.”
