Ozzy Osbourne had the ability to say anything about any random subject and somehow make it memorable. That’s a very rare talent, and it’s one of the most important aspects of his metal god life.
And so it is that musicians tend to remember their encounters with the Prince of Darkness, particularly the last things he said to them before he passed away. Tom Morello served as musical director at the final Black Sabbath concert, and he had the chance to say goodbye to Ozzy at the end of the day.
Speaking to Rocklahoma Live, Morello recalled their conversation at the concert’s afterparty. Tom Morello shared a story about the last time he saw Ozzy Osbourne. After an emotional show where everyone was hugging and crying, he was at the afterparty playing pinball with his son when Jack Osbourne tapped him and said Ozzy wanted to see him.
“This is the last time I saw Ozzy. The day is done, it’s been great, and people have been working on the show for a very long time and we’re all hugging and crying.”
“We go to the afterparty, and finally, it’s mellow. I’m playing pinball with my son and somebody taps me on the shoulder. I’m in the middle of a multi-ball and I’m like, ‘Get off me.’ And it’s Jack Osbourne because his dad wants to say hi.”
Morello finished his game and went over, surprised Ozzy even came to the party. He gave Ozzy a kiss on the head, told him he loved him, and thanked him for a lifetime of music. Ozzy gave a humorous reply. Morello laughed, calling it the perfect ending to the day.
Morello continued:
“So I finish my game and it’s like, ‘Ozzy would like to say something.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ First of all, Ozzy comes to the afterparty, which is crazy, right?”
“And so I got to, one last time, kiss his head, tell him I love him, thank him for a lifetime of music and his reply was, ‘Could you find Sharon? I want to get the f**k out of here.'”
Laughing about Ozzy’s words, Morello added, “That’s the perfect coda to the day.”
