During a discussion with his half-brother Louis Osbourne on a new episode of Jack Osbourne’s podcast “Trying Not to Die,” Jack revealed that his mom Sharon Osbourne attempted to get Ozzy to record an album of duets with notable female singers.
The revelation came while he and Louis (Ozzy Osbourne’s eldest son) were talking about some of their dad’s favorite music.
Surprisingly, the pair admitted that the late metal icon wasn’t a huge fan of rock music, with him only making an exception for AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses. Instead, the Black Sabbath singer preferred female artists and music from the ‘80s.
According to Louis, some of Ozzy’s favorites included Amy Winehouse and Adele – who “really, really, really” blew him away and left him “in awe of her vocal range and her voice.”
Jack added that their dad also “loved” Annie Lennox and other female singers “because he could appreciate the melody lines.”
He then revealed that Sharon had planned a special musical project for Ozzy, one that would’ve allowed him to collaborate with several of his favorite singers.
“One thing that mum was really trying to get dad to do in the last couple of years. She really wanted him to do a duets album with all female vocalists,” Jack said.
While the project never came to fruition, Jack and Louis noted that Ozzy did, in fact, sing alongside Madonna on a once–long-lost version of the Was (Not Was) track “Shake Your Head.” Although Madonna originally recorded the vocals, she was ultimately replaced by Kim Basinger on the officially released version. Madonna and Ozzy’s rendition resurfaced about a decade later, in 1992, when it appeared on a vinyl edition of the “Now Dance 92” compilation.
