Gus G recently shared his thoughts on not being invited to participate in Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s final show, ‘Back to the Beginning.’
Gus G opens up on being excluded by Ozzy Osbourne
The Greek guitarist was a member of Ozzy’s band from 2009 to 2017, and participated in the writing of his eleventh studio album, “Scream”. However, he was conspicuously absent from “Back to the Beginning,” the whole day festival celebrating the long history of Black Sabbath.
While Gus G wasn’t as integral to Ozzy’s history as Jake E. Lee and Zakk Wylde were, it was surprising that he wasn’t a part of the performance. But if you ask him, he’s not actually upset about it.
In an interview with BraveWords, Gus G was asked if he ever thought he’d be a part of “Back to the Beginning”. He said, “No, I didn’t know about that.”
When asked if it was a “touchy subject,” the guitarist stated that he was completely clueless about the event, and feels satisfied with what he already achieved with Ozzy. He said,
“No, it’s not. Not at all for me. I was just not in touch at all. I had no idea. They acquainted Tom Morello as a musical director, and I guess he called the people he thought should be on the list. You know, I guess I wasn’t on the list, so it’s okay. I’m not sad about it. I’m happy it happened, as a metal fan. Because I’m a fan, you know? And I mean, I got my fair share of jamming with Ozzy. How many people can say that? That they’ve done that? So I have no complaints, man. I’m actually happy that somebody like Jake E. Lee was back.”
