Foo Fighters members Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins have revealed a hilarious story of their royal encounter overnight.

Grohl and Hawkins told 60 Minutes reporter Allison Langdon of the funny story during an interview with the Australian news program over the weekend.

Telling Langdon of the story, Grohl tells the story of Prince Harry visiting the band backstage at a show in London when Hawkins tells the Prince; “I’m still tired, I’m so jet-lagged I just can’t wake up” and without warning the Prince slaps the rock drummer in the face.

Grohl said laughing, “He slapped him in the face.”

Hawkins recalled, “I was like, motherfucker.”

Alison Langdon discussed the interview in a new Honey piece.

As Dave explained to me, “I want to impress the guys in the band. You know, when I’m in front of a vocal mic and Taylor’s in the room listening to me sing, I’m more nervous about what Taylor thinks than whether it’s going to go on the radio or anything like that.”

Taylor interrupted, “The same goes quadruple for me.”

Dave has long been described as the nicest guy in rock and roll. It’s more than that though: he’s genuinely engaged – exactly the same off-camera as he is when they’re rolling.

Catching up with them again in Sydney, I took them back to Selina’s – the iconic Sydney pub that the Foo Fighters last played 20 years ago, and even more incredibly, that Nirvana played in 1992. It was Nirvana’s last Australian concert before lead singer Kurt Cobain took his own life in 1994. Back then Dave was the drummer, which perhaps goes some way towards explaining the respect and admiration he has for Taylor.

They were stoked to be back: “This is my life – this is amazing,” Dave said.
