Japanese metal band Babymetal announced today that their guitarist, Mikio Fujioka, died last week from injuries sustained during a fall late last year. Fujioka fell from an observation deck while stargazing on December 30th, which led to his death in the hospital on January 5th. He was just 36.

“The “Little” Guitar Kami of #BABYMETAL‘s #Kamiband has passed away in the METAL GALAXIES,” the band posted on Facebook today. “We hope that he is now with his GUITAR MASTER A.Holdsworth and enjoying an epic guitar session with him.”

Mikio Fujioka was a member of Babymetal’s “KamiBand,” his run with the band dating back to September 2013. He was known to fans as Ko-Gami, or The Little God. Mikio is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Babymetal opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers last year. RHCP drummer Chad Smith tweeted, “Mikio…R.i.P. little man.”
