RFK Jr. Says He’s ‘Saving a Seat’ for Kid Rock
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has spoken publicly about his long-running sobriety, saying daily recovery meetings remain central to his routine and adding that he hopes musician Kid Rock will join him in seeking help.
Kennedy discussed his recovery during an appearance on comedian Theo Von’s podcast, where he said he has stayed sober for 43 years by committing to a meeting every day; Yahoo News reported that Kennedy told Von he views the habit as “survival” and recalled his past substance use by saying he once “snort[ed] cocaine off toilet seats.”
During the conversation, Von brought up Kid Rock’s past drug references and joked about “cocaine and oysters” as a combination, according to the report. Kennedy responded that recovery would be good for the performer, adding, “I’m saving a seat for him still.”
Kennedy and Kid Rock have been publicly linked in recent weeks, including a moment when the pair posted a workout video together that drew attention online.
Kennedy has previously described a years-long heroin addiction that began in his teens and said he eventually returned to faith and 12-step meetings after reading about psychologist Carl Jung’s views on recovery. The remarks add to renewed scrutiny of public figures discussing addiction while in the national spotlight.
