Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she is “seriously thinking” about running for mayor of Birmingham, UK.
Sharon’s late husband, Ozzy Osbourne, was famously from Birmingham and performed in the city with his Black Sabbath bandmates at their farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, just weeks before his death last year.
Her comments came during a brief red carpet interview with Billboard at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 1). When host Leila Cobo praised Sharon for how well she spoke at Billboard’s Power 100 event, where she was honored for her impact on the music industry, Cobo suggested that those skills could translate into public office. In response, Sharon revealed that a political run may be in her future.
“I’m seriously thinking about running for mayor of Birmingham,” she stated.
While Sharon did not elaborate on her remarks, this is not the first time she’s hinted at the possibility of a political career.
Late last month, GB News reported that Sharon expressed interest in running for office after she learned that someone with a terrorism conviction is allegedly seeking a seat on Birmingham City Council.
“This has nothing to do with racism. I think I’m gonna move to Birmingham and put my name down for the ballot to be on the council. I’m serious,” she wrote in a comment on Instagram.
The person allegedly running for Birmingham City Council is Shahid Butt, who reportedly received a five-year prison sentence from a Yemeni court in 1999. According to GB News, he was found guilty of conspiring to attack the British consulate in Aden, an Anglican church, and a Swiss-owned hotel.
In a previous interview with ITV, Butt claimed that the charges against him were “fabricated” and that he was “falsely convicted.”
