Soundgarden are featured on the cover of Classic Rock Magazine’s August 2018 issue. This is Soundgarden’s first major magazine cover feature since Chris Cornell’s death in May 2017. There is a feature in the magazine chronicling Soundgarden’s career. The summary states, “From superunknown to grunge godfathers, from their acrimonious split to their imperious re-formation, to their sudden, tragic end, this is the inside story of a band apart.”

No excerpts from the article have been released outside a one featuring old quotes, so it’s unclear if Soundgarden’s surviving members did new interviews for this piece.

Chris Cornell’s widow Vicky last Friday announced a statue will be erected Aug. 29 at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture of her late husband. The announcement comes on what would have been Cornell’s 54th birthday. Vicky Cornell commissioned sculptor Nick Marras to create a life-size bronze statue of her late husband in his signature boots, dog tag and long locks.

Vicky Cornell has elaborated on plans for the statue in a new quote she gave to The Seattle Times.

“Even though Chris’ music touched the lives of millions around the world, there is no better place than Seattle to honor and celebrate both his contribution to music history, as well as Seattle’s unique place in popular music, with an enduring symbol of a beloved artist, father and husband,” Vicky said in a statement. “Our children and I are deeply moved by the continued outpouring of love, compassion, and support, and this is our gift to the Museum of Pop Culture and to Seattle — our gift back to the tight-knit community that gave him his start.”
