Wayne Kramer has announced a new incarnation of MC5 called ‘MC50’ to mark the 50th anniversary of Kick Out The Jams.

The lineup will feature Kramer, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil, Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, King’s X bassist Dug Pinnick, and Zen Guerrilla frontman Marcus Durant. Additionally, drummer Dennis Thompson, the only other living member of MC5, will appear at select dates. They’ll be playing Kick out the Jams in its entirety and more MC5 material.

The tour kicks off in early September and culminates with an October 27th concert in Detroit at the Fillmore. The tour will consist of 35 dates, and full dates will be announced soon. Tickets for the Fillmore show go on sale on March 9th. Thayil’s last live performance was with Soundgarden on May 17, 2017 in Detroit at the Fox Theatre. Chris Cornell died by suicide just an hour after the show ended. This will be Thayil’s first time back in Detroit since that tragic night, and this will be his first musical project since Chris Cornell’s death.

Wayne Kramer and Johnny Depp recently performed “Kick Out The Jams” with Stone Temple Pilots in Santa Clarita, CA. Kramer also joined STP on stage in Los Angeles in November to perform “Kick Out The Jams” as part of new singer Jeff Gutt’s first show.
