While David Bowie is often widely praised by fellow artists, The Police‘s Stewart Copeland recently admitted he’s never been much of a fan. In a new interview with The Guardian, the The Police drummer was asked to name what he considers to be the most overrated album of all time. Instead of picking just one, he called out Bowie’s entire catalog.
“Anything by David Bowie,” he responded.
While Copeland acknowledged Bowie’s contributions to music and his broader cultural impact, the drummer went on to explain that his music never personally resonated with him.
“I recognize the great mark that Bowie left on the world. He was innovative in 10 different ways, an inspiration for a generation. His credentials as one of the most important artists of our time cannot be questioned. However, it didn’t work for me,” Copeland said.
“I never wanted to look like that, I never wanted to sound like that, I didn’t get it. I was into Jimi Hendrix.”
