Late Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland’s son, Noah Weiland, is set to pay tribute to his father on his 10th death anniversary.
Scott Weiland tribute show
Taking to social media, Noah Weiland announced that he will be paying homage to his father by hosting a show on December 3rd in Orange County, California. Sublime singer Jakob Nowell, the son of Bradley Nowell, will also perform.
In the caption he wrote, “December 3rd i will be hosting a show in Orange County CA where i will be paying homage to my late father Scott Weiland.
10 years has gone by so fast, but his legacy must continue. We will be performing all of the hits & even some deep cuts.” This show will take places on the 10-year anniversary of Scott Weiland’s death on his tour bus in Minnesota. Weiland recently insulted Stone Temple Pilots’ surviving members, calling them ‘washed up.’ He also said he ‘hasn’t heard sh*t’ from the DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz since his father died.
Noah Weiland said, “The DeLeo brothers tried hiring the singer of Highly Suspect to take my Dad’s spot as the singer, he said no, and they lied in an interview saying they never asked him.”
Earlier this year, Noah paid tribute to his father with a cover of 1993’s “Sex Type Thing.”
Released on February 20th, the rendition of the track saw Noah offering up a faithful take on the original, albeit without the angry vocals that Scott included over 30 years ago. Featuring production and additional guitar from Spencer Carr Reed, the cover is also accompanied by a video which sees Noah making his way throughout Sherman Oaks, CA alongside a Chucky doll which represents the elder Weiland.
The video features subtitles which see Noah reflecting on the loss of his father. “There was so much I wanted to tell him, like how much has changed on Earth without him,” one caption reads, while a final caption adds, “I wish I could dream about you forever. But it’s ok…because for now I will carry on your legacy.”
“Filmed this about a dream I had long ago about seeing my father again,” Noah wrote about the track on social media. “It’s hard for me to stay in the moment sometimes, but I try.”
Scott Weiland passed away in December 2015 at the age of 48. An autopsy later declared his cause of death as an accidental overdose of cocaine, ethanol and methylenedioxyamphetamine.
Noah Weiland talks about his father’s passing
During an interview with Painful Lessons, Noah provided his theory about what really happened to the rock icon when directly asked about how his father passed away. He shared his belief about his father’s death and rejected the common claim of a drug overdose.
He stated he doesn’t trust his former stepmother, but agrees with her on one point, as he strongly believes his father likely died of a heart attack.
Noah explained his reasoning behind this belief. He connected it to years of physical strain on his father’s body.
“So, they all tried to write it off like, ‘Oh he overdosed’. And to be honest, I’m just going to be flat out. I don’t really like the woman who was once my stepmom but I will say that what she probably isn’t lying about is that, and that I would bet more than anything is that he had a heart attack.”
“And because all the years of like abusing his body right it catches up,” he continued.
“Eventually it’s like there’s only so much your body can take. He was about to be 50 and so I think it was a heart attack, basically. I mean I think that makes the most sense.”
