Butthole Surfers’ Paul Leary discussed Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love in a recent Reddit AMA.

Did you ever get a chance to meet Kurt Cobain?

“Yes, we played several shows together back in the day. There was a time when they actually would open for us. He was nice.”

How do you feel about Kurt? You probably get asked that a lot, sorry.

“Kurt was a good man and it makes me sad to think about him.”

How do you feel knowing that Kurt Cobain met Courtney Love for the first time at one of your concerts?

“It does not make me feel good.”

Hi Paul! Apart from the Surfers, you also produced Sublime’s self-titled album (one of my favorites). How did you become a producer? What’s your favorite album that you produced?

“I became a producer without knowing it. The Sublime album would probably be my favorite, except for the tragic death of Brad that sucks the joy out of it all.”

Do you still know Cory More the TM?

“Yes, he is a dear friend of mine. Unfortunately, he is mad at us because a tour bus he uses claims we trashed their bus last December. Cory fixed me up with on a lunch date with Billy Gibbons last year.”

What was it like to tour with Mark Farner? and was their any occasions where he ended up being the best alarm for the tour van?

“Farner saved me in New York City. She and I slept with the equipment. Someone started breaking into the van once while we were in it, and she defended with honor. She was a great friend, I still miss her a lot.”
