Rock Legend Ted Nugent Calls Out Texas Metal
Rock legend Ted Nugent recently commented on his experience with a custom vehicle project. He addressed serious allegations in a statement shared on YouTube.
Nugent detailed his experience with Bill Carlton and Texas Metal, a shop featured on Motor Trend’s television program. He brought his 1974 Bronco to the shop for modifications, with Carlton allegedly promising completion within a year.
“I took it to Bill Carlton at Texas Metal. He shook my hand and actually said, ‘You know, my dad said, A man’s only as good as his word.’ … ‘Can you do it in a year, Bill?’ No problem.”
Nugent accused Carlton of failing to honor this agreement, claiming that his father’s words were disrespected by the delay.
Six-Year Delay and Poor Results
The vehicle was expected to receive extensive updates including a driveline, suspension work, and off-road enhancements. However, Nugent claimed the project stretched far beyond the promised timeline.
“Six years later, it wouldn’t run… It wouldn’t even start… we’ll get it running right.”
Nugent stated that despite the Bronco being unfinished, he was pressured into doing a reveal for a Motor Trend show. He claimed the vehicle was not operable during filming.
“It wouldn’t even drive up the hill on the Texas Metal TV show… what I was looking at was a scam.”
He added that he would never risk his family or pets in the renovated vehicle, calling Carlton “a horrible man.”
Nugent Believes Mistakes Were Intentional
Nugent concluded by alleging that the issues were done on purpose, not by accident and told Motor Trend to take action.
“They can’t possibly be that stupid… Motor Trend people, call me. You can’t possibly let this guy keep his TV show.”
Background: Nugent’s Texas Metal Episode
To understand these claims, Nugent appeared in Texas Metal Season 4, Episode 9, Rock’n Bronco, which aired on May 18, 2021. Carlton’s shop, Ekstensive Metal Works, performed a full overhaul of a 1974 Ford Bronco and constructed an additional off-road buggy as part of the deal.
The episode presented the upgrades as successful transformations meant to show off Carlton’s craftsmanship. Nugent’s allegations suggest a major difference between on-screen results and his real-life experience with the vehicle’s performance.
