During a live conversation a few months ago, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan discussed the dangers with the long wait for A Perfect Circle’s 2018 Eat the Elephant album, which also apply to the new Tool album, which Keenan claims will be released in mid-May to mid-July after Danny Carey had previously stated it could be out in April.

“I think the danger in having a 14-year hiatus and coming back is that you think you have to be what you were 14 years ago. That’s absurd.

You’re not the same person, your body is not reacting to stimulus the same way it was. So you have to be honest about where you are, and where I was, was a person who had spent the last 10 years working with people like Mat Mitchell, Carina Round, and Juliette Commagere.

A different way of singing, a different way of approaching writing vocals, and that’s just where I am. So bringing it back to this, the natural thing is to react with that new tool to his stimulus.”

Hopefully that new Tool is part of the new Tool album. Tool are set to play North American festivals in a few months, and they will follow that up with a European tour featuring shows with big names like The Smashing Pumpkins.
