311 just wrapped up another monstrous 311 Day in New Orleans. Every year since 2000, the Los Angeles by way of Omaha rockers, treat their devoted fans to the ultimate 311 extravaganza on March 11th. This year, the event held at the Smoothie King Center, was extra special as the band recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Falling on a leap year certainly helped as well – allowing for a 311 Day weekend with a show on Friday and Saturday.

The band held two warm up gigs in southern California before rolling into The Big Easy. Fans historically come in from all over the world as 2014’s 311 Day saw folks from all 50 states and 13 different countries. Given it is a destination event, the 311 camp set up numerous hotel group rates, communication platforms and two free fan after parties this year, making it simple and as memorable as possible for fans. Adding to the experience, customized merchandise was available as was the bands new Amber Ale beer.

Both nights started with special videos made for the occasion (shown below). The shows themselves were filled with numerous surprises as a gospel choir joined the band on four songs Friday night and Mark McGrath made a guest appearance on Saturday night, assisting on Sugar Ray covers, “Fly,” and “Stay On.”

In total there were 85 songs played over both nights. 42 songs with two sets and an encore on night one and 43 songs with two sets and an encore on night two. Kicking off with “Hive” (also the name of the bands fanclub and studio), each studio album was showcased along with fan favorite B-Sides and rarities such as “Sun Come Through.” Two new songs were debuted as well; entitled “Hey Yo,” and “Island Sun.”
