A new DailyMail.com article details the final hour Chris Cornell’s life, featuring a quote from a Detroit police spokesman. The report states that Cornell, still clothed in his performance t-shirt and jeans, emerged from the Fox Theatre 25 minutes after coming off stage at around 11PM with his Soundgarden bandmates.

The story also has what it reports were the last words Cornell said to fans (though we obviously don’t know what he said after leaving the venue): “Cornell told fans ‘I love you’ as he was escorted from the front of the Fox Theatre from a door near the main box office. He wished them luck, posed for selfie photographs and told some he would see them in Columbus, Ohio – where his band were due to perform Friday night.”

At 11:25PM Soundgarden were escorted out of the Fox Theater after their concert, and they were whisked off together to the MGM Grand Hotel in a mini-bus. The hotel is behind the theatre and less than half-a-mile away.

Just 40 minutes later, security staff forced down the door to his room, and they discovered Cornell’s body on the floor about 12.05am.

Cornell’s Soundgarden bandmates have helped police by agreeing to be interviewed. Police spokesman Michael Woody told DailyMail.com: “We are doing everything to look into this death.”
