Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka discussed his band creating their logo before the Netflix series Stranger Things in a new DOMKcast interview. Many media outlets reported in the past that they thought Stranger Things influenced Greta Van Fleet’s logo, but this is false according to Jake.

The DOMKcast is joining Alternative Nation’s podcast network along with Appetite for Distortion, and this is the first episode of the show we are featuring on AN. Below is a transcription of Jake’s Stranger Things story.

“Josh and I are like cinema freaks, it’s more of ritualistic thing. Like here is a movie, it’s a really important thing that you have to see for one reason or another. That is something we will watch, and kind of study and go through. We had that font before Stranger Things came out, and then it came out, and we were like dammit, they stole our font! Of course Stranger Things is a lot bigger than we are, so there is that.”

Do the guys ever get tired of being compared to Led Zeppelin? Who was their biggest musical influence on their career? Jake answers both of those questions in depth. The Kiszka brothers had a unique upbringing by today’s standards. Listened to blues records out of their dad’s collection for the majority of their childhood. Contemporary music wasn’t even on their radar until middle school where friends introduced some of the popular music to them. Not impressed by the style of hip-hop, the Kiszka brothers continued to be old soles and immersed themselves in classic rock. This would be the foundation for their onstage bravura as a band.

Will Greta Van Fleet be coming to Tulsa soon? They have been touring relentlessly throughout the year which even included an appearance on the Tonight Show last week. Jake drops a few hints about their touring plans the rest of the year. Hear the full conversation with Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet on episode 66 of the DOMKcast.
