Did Guns N’ Roses Troll St. Louis?

On March 25th Guns N’ Roses announced the 21 cities they would be visiting on their reunion tour, which included what would have been the first trip back to St. Louis since  1991. However, on April 1st when the dates were announced, it was reduced to 20 cities with St Louis being left off the tour.

The history behind Axl Rose’s hate towards the Gateway City goes way back. It started when Rose was accused of instigating a riot after going after a fan with a camera during a July 1991 concert at Riverport Ampitheater in St.Louis. The concert ended when Rose broke his mic and called the show early. After the incident, the liner notes in the next two albums, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, both had some very choice words for St. Louis. Also, Rose was wearing a t-shirt in the “Don’t Cry” video that says “St. Louis Sucks”.

As of now, this seems to be yet another swipe toward St. Louis, that is unless we hear differently from the band.

St. Louis doesn’t deserve that for the behaviour of one bad apple. Rose punched out audience members and security personnel and had charges filed against him for inciting a riot. The city of St. Louis should take to social media and respond with a jab to Axl.

    • Slash

Go fuck yourself Raj, you clearly have little or no understanding about what actually happened. The saddle tramps were unruly and pushing other audience members around, they were disruptive. Stump interrupted the show to hand one of his damn business cards up, and this was before he pulled out the camera. ALSO- Stump Stephenson was an off-duty member of the security company that was working the event that night, so they were lax in controlling him. Nobody got hit except the Security Staff.
Get your facts straight before running your mouth about things you dont have any idea about.

      • Felonious Punk

lol Look at this Gn’R loser coming to Alt Nation trying to pick fights with all the regulars, standing up for his fat prima donna racist hero Axl.

Axl acted like a baby, jumped into the crowd and started punching audience members…over a fucking camera he *thought* he saw. Then he stormed out like a little bitch and THAT’S when the crowd got pissed. It’s all over Youtube and the internet, dumbass. Axl was 100% to blame for the St. Louis riot and hopefully they told him and his band of hired opportunists to take their money-grubbing nostalgia tour elsewhere, because they weren’t welcomed there, ever.

Fuck St. Louis? Nah, fuck Fat Axl and his gang of hired hands. I hope this tour goes down in flames and buries what’s left of their pathetic legacy altogether.

        • Slash

That isnt what happened in St Louis at all, you obviously werent there.

This tour will be a big success, This obviously bothers you and causes you to lash out in ridiculous ways to try and feel better about your life, it is sad.

Hope you are able to get some help soon, and resolve your many issues.

          • Corndog

Are you serious man? You’re the one ranting like a nutcase. Pot, kettle, black.

          • Everyone just STOP– can’t you see.. you’re tearing this family apart?!!

          • Slash

            I was there. Were you?
            Case closed.

          • Corndog

Was I there when you were ranting like a crazy person? Yes I was.
            Case closed.

          • Slash

Maybe you aren’t understanding or have issues regarding reading comprehension.
I am stating I was at Riverport amp venue when GNR played in 91′
            Were you there?
            …direct question.

          • Corndog

            Yeah man….i got it…..Jesus….

Maybe you have issues regarding reading comprehension yourself, as you’re arguing with the wrong damn person. Now, kindly get off my dick.

        • Toad Wallop

Not to argue, but there’s no way this tour will fail if they stick to it. That 2 minute clip of Welcome to the Jungle is also the best live version of that song in recent years. I can’t get that acoustic version you posted a couple weeks ago out of my head. 🙂 That was some funny shit! I just can’t understand needing 2 keyboard players though. That girl isn’t really contributing anything to most of those songs. She probably wasn’t even born when Appetite came out. Hell, Dizzy just plays those bongos on a lot of songs. Like you can even really hear it over everything else. I understand needing him for most of the Illusion’s tracks, but that girl is just there mostly for eye candy, in my opinion. Maybe it helps to fill out some of the songs like “Live and Let Die”, like synth horns and what not. I could forgive having her there if Izzy and Steven were there. Hell, I’d (big maybe) considering going to one of those shows if that were the case. I’d probably just YouTube one though.

        • Slash

Nah, I’m merely responding to sad and obsessed little fanboys who have an empty life and more time on their hands than brain cells.

      • Corndog

Calm the fuck down and stop being so bloody hostile man. Try to relax.

      • Raj

Whoa easy there pal, take a chill pill. What do you care what I or anyone on the internet posts? Okay if you were there then you know the facts. Why wasn’t that guy charged with inciting a riot instead of them charging Axl? My issue is that because of one bad individual and weak security a quarter of a century ago shouldn’t mean the entire city of St. Louis and the rest of the patrons who paid their hard earned money should get shafted now. To troll St. Louis now is childish.

    • Slash

      I don’t blame Axl

      Here’s why

“Stump” the guy that was taking pictures was not only a member of the saddle tramps- the gang that was causing trouble- he was also a member of the security staff that was working that night- who was off duty.

■From Doug Goldstein, GN’R’s ex manager… The real story behind St. Louis…

About time the story is told…The fucking idiot who was taking pictures was a security guy who took the night off to see his “idol” Axl Rose! We all saw this prick knocking fans over to get a better seat, and spilling beers on everybody around him.
Axl pleaded with the local security company to “get the camera” but because he was one of them…they didn’t..The reality (and I love all the guys we employed), but one of the 8 security guys we had working security on this tour SHOULD have interceded LONG before Axl did.

After the Melee…I spoke to Axl, and he said “Give me two minutes to clean up my scrapes and cuts” I assembled the band and we tried to go back out onstage as the crowd grew restless. The promoter and the police told us to “Fuck Off” and leave..I told them that the only way the fans would settle down is if they allowed the band back on..They formed a barricade of cops and again told us to “Fuck Off…we weren’t welcome anymore”..at this time..I was concerned for the bands safety so I instructed John Reese the bands tour manager to load up and head to Chicago..I stayed until 5am fighting with the crowd and authorities.

I fucking HATE all the shit that AXL gets blamed for..He had every right to do what he did…try walking a mile in his shoes or the shoes of his bandmates,,its very scary when NO ONE has your back….Time to get the real shit out because Axl has never defended himself against all the haters.

    • Slash

Nope, he didnt punch any audience members and the guy that was illegally taking pictures was an off duty security guard for the firm that was working the show.
It was an out of control rowdy mc gang that was instigating the trouble and the security company was not doing their job.
If you were actually around, and actually there you might know a few facts about this instead of inventing false scenarios.

    Fuck St. Louis

It’s funny because St Louis is a horrible city!
