Seattle musician Jeff Rouse, who has played in Duff McKagan’s Loaded, recently discussed the upcoming Mother Love Bone benefit concert in Seattle in a new Appetite For Distortion interview.
A SMASH (Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare) Benefit Show celebrating the music of Mother Love Bone featuring members legendary Seattle and Grunge era bands was recently announced. Mother Love Bone is famous for helping launch the careers of Pearl Jam members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. Lead singer Andrew Wood tragically died in March 1990 prior to the release of Apple. The concert will take place on May 5, 2018 in Seattle at the Tractor.
“It’s going to be a really cool night. There hasn’t been something like that with Mother Love Bone, this whole thing has kind of never been done, though there are tribute bands and things like that. But when the Seattle community kind of comes together to do stuff like this, it has to really mean something. There are a lot of things that feel sacred here, in any kind of town or scene it feels like that.
This is going to be a really special thing, and I’m really honored that they asked me to do it, I’ve got to get to work. It’s funny because I was hanging out with Jeff Ament yesterday morning, I’m not trying to name drop or whatever, it was really great. Pearl Jam just got back from South America. I was like, ‘I don’t know if you heard, there’s this thing.’ He heard about it. So we got to talk about it, and kind of delve into it.
I’ve known Jeff, and known those guys, but it’s not something that really comes up in conversation a lot for some reason, but it was really fun to talk to him about that. He was like, ‘Yeah, I still have all those basses that I played back then. You can borrow all of them.’ So I’m going to borrow all of them, because Jeff Ament played 12-string basses, fretless basses, and all of these things. He’s an amazing bass player. So it will be really cool, it just feels like the right thing to do, it will be really cool to bring that energy to the music.”
It’s unclear if Ament will perform, but members of ‘MOTHER LOVE BONE, SWEETWATER, HAMMERBOX, BRAD, THE POSIES, DUFF MCKAGEN’s LOADED, ALCOHOL FUNNYCAR, NORTH TWIN, FLIGHT TO MARS, STEREO EMBERS + Special Guests’ are advertised for the concert.

Good hang this morning with my bass brother Jeff Ament geeking out on bass guitars and getting some pointers on all of those #motherlovebone bass lines I have to learn. Much love my friend.#PearlJam #bassplayer #seattle #thebassshop #westseattle pic.twitter.com/6iWUqUMk6i
