BlastEcho has responded to claims that a D’arcy Wretzky impersonator gave him the bombshell news that Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin will be reuniting for a Smashing Pumpkins tour without her. Below are from the site’s comments section:
This is apparently fake. Way to spread misinformation, guys.
It is? Cool, I’ll tell D’arcy that both interviews she did with me didn’t happen.
The interviews were done via text? She’s on FB saying it wasn’t her giving out this info.
So the previous interview did with her was “fake,” too? http://blastecho.com/ex-smashing-pumpkin-darcy-wretzky-breaks-her-silence/. And I magically got that photo for the story, too, that nobody’s ever seen? Interesting…
I’m not talking about the last interview and have no reason to question that you’ve had contact with her before — but she’s saying she’s been hacked and it wasn’t her giving out that info. So in light of that, if your only contact with her was through text, technically you can’t be 100% sure it really was her.
Didn’t mean to come off too argumentative before… all I’m saying is that there’s conflicting info out there, and she’s saying on her FB account that it wasn’t her. So it’s fairly reasonable to question it.
Billy Corgan’s former solo bandmate and close friend Linda Strawberry has made another post on a Smashing Pumpkins Facebook group regarding the D’arcy Wretzky/Smashing Pumpkins reunion social media soap opera.
“….sooo. She was supposedly ‘hacked’ and the story disappears – now the story is back and spreading… so which lies are the real lies. Is it all a lie?”
A news article on Blast Echo was released yesterday where D’arcy Wretzky claimed she had been told she was out of the Smashing Pumpkins reunion, and that Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin would be touring with a different bass player in July. D’arcy claimed she was ‘disappointed’ by the news. She then claimed on Facebook that she was hacked, and screenshots of these Facebook posts have now surfaced.
Alternative Nation reported yesterday:
Some major developments surrounding D’arcy Wretzky’s involvement in Smashing Pumpkins’ original lineup reunion have developed, and here is the recap.
Blast Echo first reported on Sunday that original Smashing Pumpkins bassist D’arcy Wretzky has confirmed that a Smashing Pumpkins reunion is on, but she was just informed that she will not take part in the tour.
The article stated:
Speaking exclusively to BlastEcho via text, Wretzky wrote, “My apologies to all of the Smashing Pumpkins fans out there who are excited about this oncoming reunion tour of the original members of the band. I know this is a huge disappointment for me, as well, but it’s not going to happen [with me].”
She added, “I only just found about yesterday that the band has decided to go with a different bass player.”
According to Wretzky, the band is planning to launch a summer tour featuring frontman Billy Corgan, original guitarist James Iha, original drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and, now a to-be-determined bassist, beginning in July.
At this time, Wretzky declined to provide additional details.
Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha were recently photographed together at a studio in Los Angeles. Jeff Schroeder was also present.
Wretzky was interviewed by Blast Echo two years ago in her only interview she has done in the 2010’s, so they do have a history of communication with her. Blast Echo’s new article also featured the first new photo of D’arcy since 2014.
Blast Echo later took the new article down at the request of D’arcy. Blast Echo told a fan, “She told me to take it down…hopefully I can get it up again later.”
D’arcy later posted on her personal Facebook, “I haven’t been on FB since- oh! i’m pretty sure i know who did this.me crazy somewone IS hacking my phone&/or fb account.”
A fan commented on the post asking if the article stating that she wouldn’t be joining the Smashing Pumpkins reunion was true. D’arcy said she ‘was sposed to.’
The fan asked, “Was that article about the pumpkins reunion real, that you aren’t joining them?”
Darcy responded: “Was sposed to.”
Billy Corgan’s close friend and former solo bandmate Linda Strawberry commented on the story in a Facebook group.
“Hahah I normally don’t say anything at all but really everyone should just wait for Billy to chime in either way. The only thing I can comment on is that he’s writing some killer music. And a ton of it.”
Note that Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha have yet to offer comment on this news.
