Roger Waters recently sent a thankful note to a Detroit fan for supporting his claim of Waters being “way more important than The Weeknd & Drake”. A new Instagram video sees the legend holding the fan-made sign containing the aforementioned statement as he shares some thoughts on his recent gig at Michigan’s largest city.

Waters commented:

“We just finished a gig in Detroit, and there was some fan there – not as old as me, but probably older than you – and he brought this with him… And so, I’m making this little video for this bloke. I think it’s very funny – and it’s also kind and nice. So, this is for you, mate, whoever you are.”

The reason why anyone would be comparing Waters’s “importance” to that of The Weeknd or Drake comes down to a statement the 78-year-old musician recently made during an interview published in Canada’s The Globe and Mail. It has been noted that Waters was expressing discontent with the fact that his show in Toronto wasn’t covered by the press to an extent he thought adequate.

When the interviewer noted how this is probably due to the fact that a Weeknd concert was supposed to happen roughly at the same time and how they were making up for it by talking to Waters for the article in question, the musician replied:

“Good, I’m glad to hear that, and I look forward to reading this in the pages of your newspaper. I’m not trying to make a personal attack. I’m just saying it seemed odd. And, by the way, with all due respect to the Weeknd or Drake or any of them, I am far, far, far more important than any of them will ever be, however many billions of streams they’ve got. There is stuff going on here that is fundamentally important to all of our lives.”
