Stone Temple Pilots have released “Roll Me Under” as the second single off of their new self-titled album, set for release on March 16th. “Roll Me Under” sounds a lot like a heavier version of Army of Anyone, the DeLeo brothers’ side project with Filter frontman Richard Patrick and Ray Luzier.

Jeff Gutt’s voice even sounds somewhat similar to Patrick’s during the verses, while the verses sound like a hard rocking Aerosmith with a 2000’s rock radio flavor. Gutt has a few howls during a breakdown that sound a bit like Perry Farrell. This is definitely heavier than lead single “Meadow” with very raw production, in stark contrast to STP’s slickly produced High Rise EP with the late great Chester Bennington.

Do you think this holds up to STP, Army of Anyone, and Talk Show? Let us know in the comments.

You can listen to “Roll Me Under” below.

Despite being one of the best-selling bands of the 1990s with platinum records and a Grammy to its credit, guitarist Dean DeLeo says about the new album, “We are thrilled about what lies ahead. The best way for us to honor our past is to keep making new music.”
