According to the Courier-Journal, the NCAA ruled that several UK soccer players will have to sit out of two supervised team activities after joining a pickup soccer game with the Foo Fighters and Kentucky coaches before a May concert at Rupp Arena.

The game with the rock band took place the week before final exams, when the NCAA prohibits coaches from being involved with players, even if it’s kicking the ball around for fun.

Some of the Kentucky players were playing in their own pickup game at one end of the field when a member of the Foo Fighters invited them to play, “as they were getting tired and wanted the energy level to be raised.”

According to the self-reported violation, three current Kentucky men’s soccer players, one former men’s soccer player and one current women’s soccer player participated in the game after they were invited to join.

Kentucky BBN tweeted, “The Foo Fighters managed to get Kentucky in trouble with the NCAA.”

Courier-Journal reporter Joel Christopher tweeted, “Another celebrity crush ends up causing some headaches for University of Kentucky athletics.”

Unafraid Show’s George Wrighster III tweeted, “I will never understand why people continually defend the NCAA and it’s ‘amateurism’ policies.

They have proven with UNC they don’t have to educate the players, but they will suspend them for selling their own gear or playing soccer with the Foo Fighters.”
