Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz discussed Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington’s deaths in a new Rock.com.ar interview. The quotes below are translated so aren’t exactly correct.

Weiland and Bennington died in different circumstances, but both were fighting internally. Do you think there were parallels between their deaths?

“(Think) It’s hard to say, because Scott was very complex and Chester was too. They were two exceptional human beings, and it is very difficult to know what was going on in Weiland’s head. He loved life, but he was also very self-destructive. He was dealing very hard with his own demons, and unfortunately, they won him …”

That is, you do not notice too many coincidences in their games.

“The parallels are that both were very creative and affectionate, but their problems were completely different. Both had a huge percentage of creativity and were a great inspiration as frontmen, as well as very beautiful people that we lost in recent years. Do you know what is the only thing I hope for? May all of you continue to remember for how wonderful and talented you were.”

Scott Weiland died from a drug overdose in December 2015, while Chester Bennington died by suicide in July 2017.
