Van Halen rumor authority and iconic American music historian Eddie Scott Trunk, also known as Eddie Trunk, took to his SiriusXM show recently to discuss a bizarre press release promoting an equally bizarre piece of promotional merchandise for Eddie Van Halen: sneakers. While Trunk seemed to like the sneakers, he was unhappy that the only real Van Halen news in the last few years has been a sneakers release. Alternative Nation transcribed the comments of Mr. Trunk.

Trunk: So for all of you guys hoping and wishing Van Halen would have done something for their 40th anniversary to commemorate their debut album in 1978, you got it! Sneakers! What that wasn’t exactly what you were looking for? What, were you looking for a tour? Were you looking for records, a new album? Something? Nah you get sneakers!

Co-host: Well he did do that interview with what, was it, Golf Digest? [laughs]

Trunk: You’re getting talk about golf and you’re getting sneakers. I agree with what Ed said by the way. I’m not shooting on the sneakers; I think they’re incredibly cool.

Trunk later said:

Trunk: When I see something coming in with Eddie Van Halen or Van Halen in the subject from an official source as an email, I immediately perk up because I’m like:

“Here it is! It’s here! We’re talking about it forever and we got it! We got a tour, we got a record, and finally it’s here!”

And then I click on it and it’s like.

RELEASED: A PAIR OF SNEAKERS

As cool as the sneakers are, there’s still that side that’s like [Sad trombone]. Because Van Halen fans are so dying, myself included for anything. all these touring rumors and everything that an official press release, and I always say: “Wait for the official, wait for the official.”

And it comes, and it’s sneakers [Sad trombone].
