Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl did a live conversation with his mother, ‘From Cradle To Stage’ author Virginia Hanlon Grohl, over the weekend in Canada. You can view a photo of Grohl hilariously flipping a middle finger towards his mother to demonstrate to her how to do it, recalling a funny Foo Fighters music video story. You can view a photo of the middle finger salute in the Instagram album below. The Toronto Sun reported:

Dave had to teach his mother, who has never sworn, to raise her middle finger in a music video cameo. “I don’t know what happened to me,” said Dave. “I just became the biggest potty mouth in the world.”

The first time Virginia, also involved in the school’s drama department, watched Dave perform was when he auditioned for the production of The King and I at age 8. “A sore point,” joked Virginia as Dave rolled his eyes. “My friend Larry Hinkle and I decided, ‘Okay, we’re going to intentionally lose our voices when we show up for the audition so we ran around my house with pillows over our faces screaming,” said Dave, who only made understudy after playing The Beatles’ Rocky Raccoon on an acoustic guitar with a hoarse voice.

Variety reported:

Although neither of them are Canadian, Dave and Virginia Hanlon Grohl kicked off Mothers’ Day weekend onstage in Toronto, with the rock star giving his mother props for being a “cool mom” as part of the annual Canadian Music Week festival.

“I’m interviewing my mom, by the way,” Grohl marveled at the start of the hour-plus discussion. “This doesn’t happen all the time!”

Throughout, the pair displayed obvious affection for one another, recalling with charm and fond nostalgia the vertiginous events that led to Grohl becoming one of the world’s biggest rock stars.
