Mike Shinoda discussed Linkin Park having been rumored to hire a new male singer in a new interview.

“We could’ve chosen a male singer. We could’ve had the singer of one of our cover bands. […] When Emily Armstrong came in – she sings so well and she’s a ton of fun to hang out with. That’s the thing that made obvious which direction we should go.”

Billboard recently ranked the Top 100 Artists of the 21st Century, with Nickelback being the highest ranked rock band on the list, coming in at No. 26 overall.

As noted by Loudwire, Nickelback’s 2001 hit single “How You Remind Me” was the most played song on US radio across all formats in the 2000s. They also had quite a few Top 10 hits on the Hot 100 chart, including “Someday,” “Photograph,” “Far Away,” “Rockstar,” and “Gotta Be Somebody.”

While the Chad Kroeger fronted band may be the post popular rock band of the 21st century according to Billboard, the second is Linkin Park coming in at No. 37. The recently reunited group had several Top 10 hits on the Hot 100 with “In the End,” “What I’ve Done,” and “New Divide,” as well as having even bigger success on the Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock charts.

Avril Lavigne (No. 47), Coldplay (No. 53), Creed (No. 66), 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock (No. 83), Twenty One Pilots (No. 84), Daughtry (No. 89), Gwen Stefani (No. 97), Santana (No. 98), and Fall Out Boy (which came in last place at No. 100) were also listed as some of the most popular rock acts of the 21st century.
