The Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the Chicago Cubs in the MLB Tokyo Series, sweeping both games held at the Tokyo Dome on March 18 and 19, 2025. This historic series featured the first-ever Opening Day matchup between two Japanese starting pitchers.

In Game 1, Dodgers’ pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. Cubs’ starter Shota Imanaga held the Dodgers hitless through four innings but struggled with control, issuing four walks. The Dodgers broke through in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a throwing error by the Cubs’ second baseman to take a 3-1 lead. Shohei Ohtani contributed with two hits and two runs as the Dodgers secured a 4-1 victory.

Game 2 showcased the highly anticipated MLB debut of Dodgers’ rookie Roki Sasaki. The young pitcher flashed impressive velocity, reaching 101 mph, but struggled with command, walking five batters in three innings. The Dodgers’ offense came alive with home runs from Tommy Edman, Kiké Hernández, and a solo shot from Ohtani. Despite a late push from the Cubs, the Dodgers closed out the series with a 6-3 win.

The series highlighted the growing influence of Japanese players in MLB and baseball’s expanding global appeal.
