AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd posted a rare new photo as he is missing the band’s tours after his legal issues.

Phil Rudd, AC/DC’s longtime drummer, has had a turbulent decade marked by legal issues and a subsequent return to the iconic rock band. In 2014, Rudd faced serious charges in New Zealand, where he resides. Initially accused of attempting to procure a murder—a charge that was later dropped—he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of drug possession and threatening to kill. This resulted in an eight-month sentence of home detention. The case tarnished Rudd’s reputation and led to his absence from AC/DC’s subsequent tours.

Rudd’s legal troubles stemmed from personal and substance abuse struggles. His 2014 arrest revealed methamphetamine and cannabis in his possession, drawing significant public and media attention. The fallout strained his relationship with the band, which enlisted drummer Chris Slade for the 2015 “Rock or Bust” tour.

After completing his sentence, Rudd focused on rehabilitation and solo musical projects, releasing his album Head Job in 2014. By 2020, Rudd had rejoined AC/DC for their Power Up album, marking his official return. The reunion was seen as a reconciliation between Rudd and his bandmates, including lead guitarist Angus Young.

Rudd’s return was warmly received by fans, with Power Up debuting as a commercial and critical success. His comeback underscored his importance to the band’s iconic sound, cementing his role as one of rock’s most enduring drummers despite past controversies. Rudd remains an emblem of resilience in the face of adversity within the music world.
