Ace Frehley’s Family History
Born Paul Daniel Frehley on April 27, 1951, in The Bronx, New York, Ace Frehley grew up in a working-class family that played a crucial role in shaping his musical journey. His father, Carl Frehley, was a talented jazz musician who worked as an electrical engineer, while his mother, Esther, supported the family as a homemaker. Ace was the youngest of three children, with his brother Charles and sister Nancy both encouraging his early interest in music. His brother was the first to give him a guitar, a moment Ace would later credit as life-changing.
Frehley’s upbringing in a close-knit Bronx household laid the foundation for his unique identity. He often spoke about feeling like the “black sheep” of the family, channeling that energy into music and performance. His parents supported his artistic pursuits, even as his rebellious streak grew during his teenage years.
Later in life, Ace had one daughter, Monique Frehley, with his first wife, Jeanette Trerotola. He frequently expressed pride in his role as a father, even during turbulent years of fame and addiction. Despite personal struggles, family remained a constant theme in his life. Ace will live on through his family and fans. Ace was, and always will be, irreplaceable.
