Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock in a new interview, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton opened up about the band’s recent retirement announcement.

“[Everyone] worked so hard, participating in the design of the production, the setlist and especially, rehearsing,” Hamilton said. “We worked really hard individually and then worked really hard as a band, getting the songs down. By the time we got to those first few shows, we were really at the top of our game.”

Aerosmith were forced to cancel the remainder of their “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour” and announce their retirement from touring in August 2024 as a result of a persistent vocal cord injury sustained by frontman Steven Tyler in 2023. Despite his best efforts, Tyler’s fractured larynx has yet to make a full recovery, making it impossible for the singer to continue.

This past September in a discussion with Guitar World, Hamilton shared his thoughts on what he thinks this means for the future of the band. “I find it hard to believe that we’ll never play again,” he admitted. “I’ve been surprised by things that have happened with this band too many times to think that the future is closed.”

“It was a punch in the gut finding out that our touring days are over. Maybe someday we can do something again, but it won’t be a tour,” Hamilton added.
